Decolletage and Newer Aesthetic Treatments

Neck wrinkles and fine lines characterized by linear grooves in the anterior half of the neck skin has been recently brought to the forefront of aesthetic treatments. For years, Botox, fat transfers, hyaluronic acid injections, laser treatments and surgery have been the alternative treatment modalities offered to patients. Recent studies have brought alternatives to the table.

Causes of Neck Wrinkles and Aging Skin

While skin aging is widely acknowledged as the primary cause of facial wrinkles, The formation and progression of neck wrinkles are recognized as a multifactorial process closely associated with skin aging though not exclusively attributed to it. Factors such as frequent tilting of the head to use cell phones or other electronic devices, prolonged periods of desk work, and obesity have been identified as major contributors to neck wrinkling. Experts state that sun damage ultimately accounts for 90% of skin aging especially in the face and neck area.

Consequently, the increasing focus on addressing neck wrinkles has prompted the emergence of alternative rejuvenation treatments that differ from what has been previously offered.

Common Neck Treatments in Aesthetic Medicine

Surgery or lower rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and tighten the underlying muscles. This results in a more defined neck and jawline. This addresses significant sagging and muscle bands. The average cost of neck surgery is $10,000 excluding anesthesia and facility fees. Surgery necessitates significant down time for healing and has surgical risks such as infection and blood clots. Other factors when considering surgery for aging of the neck area include the surgeon’s expertise, and the procedures complexity overall.

Platelet Rich Plasma has been proven in many studies to accelerate wound healing while promoting tissue regeneration through either topical application or direct injection. As an autologous blood concentrate, platelet rich plasma is rich in cytokines, growth factors and bioactive proteins. Its accessibility, renewability, cost effectiveness, lack of ethical concerns and suitability for individuals of all age groups has led to a growing interest in the utilization for many aesthetic applications.

Radiofrequency technology has the ability to penetrate the epidermis of the skin and deliver a thermal stimulus to the dermal layers and subcutaneous tissues. This causes collagen denaturation and fibroblastic stimulation for neocollagenesis resulting in tissue tightening and wrinkle reduction.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive therapeutic modality utilized for the treatment of skin problems by creating controlled skin microinjuries to induce collagen synthesis and skin rejuvenation. It also facilitates drug delivery through the microchannels.

PRP, RF, and Microneedling for Neck Wrinkle Reduction: Study Overview

Comparing the Effectiveness of Platelet Rich Plasma Alone versus Combined with Microneedles or Radiofrequency for Neck Wrinkle Treatment
J Cosmet Dermatol 2025 Jan 24(1):e16651 PMID 39503284

The Lemperle Wrinkle Assessment Scale is a barometer for measuring the grade of wrinkles and the efficacy of treatment over time. (This is assessed visually)

Grade zero- no wrinkles
Grade one-barely perceptible wrinkles
Grade two- shallow wrinkles
Grade three- moderately deep wrinkles
Grade four- deep wrinkles with well-defined edges
Grade five- very deep wrinkles, redundant folds

It is well established that dermal collagen is primarily composed of collagen type 1. (85%)

To measure the dermal collagen post treatment with regenerative therapies a CBS system was established to microscopically examine the generated collagen fibers. This system also measures elasticity.

These two ways to measure the effectiveness of regenerative treatments to the skin of the neck were applied in a study utilizing skin wrinkles, treatments and duration of effectiveness.

Three groups were treatment with different modalities.
Group one had platelet rich plasma injections only.
Group two had topical platelet rich plasma with microneedling
Group three had platelet rich plasma injections with radiofrequency

This study compared the effectiveness and safety of platelet rich plasma application alone and combined with microneedling or radiofrequency in the treatment of neck wrinkles. The assessment showed nearly all patients observed improvements at one months which demonstrated all treatments were effective. At the 6-month level, the PRP/RF showed the best results for the treatment of neck wrinkles in all patients. Collagen and Elastin fibers were the greatest when measured by the CBS system. The patients were all matched in groups by the Lamperle grading system so the treatment comparisons were validated.

The conclusion of this study demonstrated evidence that PRP therapy when combined with microneedling and radiofrequency is an effective treatment for anti-aging of the neck area. The authors stated the synergistic effects of radiofrequency and microneedling complemented the regenerative properties of the platelet rich plasma and these effects had prolonged sustainability with visible results at six months post treatment.

Study: Micro-Needle Technology vs Classic Needles for Bio Revitalization

Evaluation of the Performance and Safety of a New Micro-Needle Technology in Comparison with the Classic Needle on the Antiaging Effects of a Bio revitalizing Solution: A Randomized Split Face/Neck Study
J Cosmet Dermatol 2024 Dec;23(12):3974-3985 PMID 39356623

Background; Skin bio revitalization involves multiple intradermal injections to enhance skin quality, but precise dermal targeting can be challenging due to variations in skin thickness. Smaller, less painful needles with fewer skin reactions are attractive options.

Aims: This study evaluates new Micro-needle devices’ performance and safety in comparison with the classic needle used in skin bio-revitalization.

Conclusion: Micro-needles enhanced the outcomes of skin bio-revitalization procedures particularly in terms of wrinkle reduction, elasticity and overall skin hydration.

Juventix Regenerative Medical’s PRP, RF, and Microneedling Innovations

Juventix Regenerative Medical is an industry leader in the regenerative medical field. Our Platelet Rich Plasma Kits are FDA cleared and designed for safety, sterility and effectiveness. Our kits are scientifically manufactured to provide a platelet concentrate, devoid of red blood cells with a minimal number of leukocytes that are critical for the regenerative process.

Juventix Regenerative Medical offers a patented LED Activator to activate the platelets and begin the regenerative process. The activation is a critical step in the release of growth factors, cytokines and bioactive proteins from the granules that are contained on the platelets and is accomplished with LED light. This negates the use of chemical additives such as Calcium Chloride, Thrombin or Collagen. This mode of activation by LED light provides sustained growth factor release versus older methods of activation while adhering to the minimal manipulation standards of the FDA.

This activation should always be accomplished after the gentle swirl of the centrifuged product to maximize the number of captured platelets.

Juventix Regenerative Medical supplies the Radiance RF Advanced Radiofrequency Microneedling Device. This device is the most up to date RF in the marketplace. It is a cutting edge subdermal adipose remodeling device that synergistically combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy.
